The intervention preserves the apartment’s original configuration, maintaining its walls, doors and the symmetrical organization of the social area. In the living and dining rooms, this order is reinforced by the layout, while contemporary furniture introduces curved forms and lower pieces that contrast with the orthogonality of the floor plan.

Existing elements of a more classical architectural character coexist with a selection of Brazilian design pieces, defined by precise lines and, at times, sculptural forms. The contrast between these different languages guides the interiors without erasing the apartment’s original characteristics. Natural wood, softly textured fabrics and light surfaces form a neutral foundation for the furniture and enhance the luminosity of the rooms. In the dining room, a pendant light belonging to the residents was retained and incorporated into the new composition.

The main change to the floor plan takes place in the kitchen. The former breakfast room was incorporated into the space, expanding it and reorganizing the areas dedicated to everyday meals. A peninsula combines the cooktop, barbecue and hood and establishes a partial separation between the preparation area and the dining table. The cabinetry incorporates the appliances, while the sintered-stone countertop responds to the intensive use of the kitchen.

In the social area, the low height of the furniture preserves visual axes between the living room, dining room and veranda  and reinforces the continuous reading of the spaces. The intervention is thus achieved with few changes to the existing  architecture, focusing on the reorganization of the kitchen and the selection of furniture, materials and finishes.
