CASA BALEIA

  São Sebastião SP
  Residential
  340m²

The project began with the transformation of an existing beach house and the opportunity to establish a more direct relationship between the interior spaces, the garden and the pool.

A structural steel reinforcement made it possible to replace the walls of the ground-floor social area with two steel columns and glass doors, opening up the social spaces and extending the continuity between the living room, dining room and exterior. An existing tree beside the house was preserved and incorporated into the new configuration, together with the garden alongside the dining room.

The new veranda, built with a steel structure, extends the living spaces toward the garden. The sequence of living room, dining room, veranda, lawn and pool creates a gradual transition between indoor and outdoor areas and brings the house closer to the spaces for outdoor living.

The landscape design follows the same relationship and responds to the hot and humid climate of São Sebastião. Calatheas, philodendrons, heliconias and alpinia create a tropical vegetation palette around the living areas and along the transitions between the house and garden.

The materials and finishes follow the same logic of continuity: light surfaces, wood and large expanses of glass reduce the boundaries between inside and outside and maintain the presence of the landscape throughout the social areas.
